Do I really need a spill pallet for just one drum of diesel? (14 อ่าน)

We keep a single 200 litre drum of diesel at our yard in Al Ain to refuel the generator during power cuts, and it just sits on the concrete floor near the wall. The municipality inspector who came last month mentioned that any stored fuel should have secondary containment, but he did not give a fine or anything, just a comment in passing. Now I am trying to decide if I should actually buy something or if he was just being thorough. It is only one drum, we are not a fuel station. But I get the logic, if that drum ever leaks or gets knocked over, the diesel goes straight into the ground and that is a real mess and probably a bigger problem than the cost of containment. Looking at options I saw a spill pallet 1 drum 675x675x150mm which seems sized for exactly our situation, compact enough to fit in the corner without eating up space. Has anyone dealt with this kind of requirement before and is it worth doing voluntarily? Also does the plastic hold up in direct sun because our yard is fully exposed and I do not want it cracking after one summer.
