At what point does a growing business actually need a proper storage system rather than just winging it (4 อ่าน)

Asking this partly for validation and partly because I genuinely don't know the answer. We started out of a small unit in Ajman about eighteen months ago, basically just the two of us moving stock around by hand and keeping track of everything in a spreadsheet that made sense at the time. Fast forward to now and we've got three part time staff, a much bigger unit, and an inventory that has tripled in variety if not always in volume, and the old way of doing things is visibly breaking down. Last week we spent almost two hours looking for a specific batch of components that turned out to be perfectly fine, just stored in a way that made no logical sense to anyone except past me apparently. A friend who runs a retail supply business mentioned Crateco Pack LLC when I was venting about it and suggested I explore better storage systems for your business as a proper research exercise rather than just buying random shelving and hoping for the best, which is basically what I've been doing. I found their listing on nichemarket and it got me thinking more seriously about whether what we need is a structural redesign rather than just more space. The frustrating part is I don't know if our problem is the physical storage setup, the categorisation system, or just that nobody's been trained consistently on where things go. Probably all three honestly. Has anyone gone through a proper storage overhaul at this stage of growth and figured out which part of the problem to tackle first?
