I just got served with a summons from Michael & Associates, PC regarding an old debt, and I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed. The paperwork looks official, but I’m not sure if the debt is even valid or if it’s past the statute of limitations in my state. I’ve read a few things online about making sure they validate the debt, but I’m worried about missing a deadline to respond and ending up with a default judgment or even wage garnishment.



Has anyone else here dealt with legal threats from this firm? What steps did you take to verify the debt or fight back? I’m trying to figure out if I should try to negotiate a settlement myself or immediately look for a consumer attorney. Any advice on how to handle the initial response to the court or communication with them would be really appreciated.
